When I compete in Sonic 1, (using an emulator) I sometimes make a save state at the level select screen, or at the beginning of a level. I have never made a state in the middle of a great run, thus getting no more than one chance to finish a good run without mistakes.
My question is, is this allowed?
If not, I will gladly insert 9:59s for all my stats.

I believe it is (it better be, or I'll have to wipe all *my* stats).  Can't see why it wouldn't be, you're not gaining a competitive advantage by it.

I object to douglas using savestates at the beginning of levels.  Simply because he's better in the ranks than me.  Azure, on the other hand, is perfectly free to do so.

Um... I'm better in the ranks than you too (TSC-wise) in sitewide and Sonic 1. So I should NOT be free to do so.
